Description

e-co:

There are troubles with suspend/resume. The task doesn't have solution because it's necessary write control programs for every video-adapter, every notebook. (q) LightElf?

IMHO, from user's point of view, Hybernate is the same thing as S3 suspend/resume. This will allow avoid the troubles with video init on resume.

Yes, we should spend efforts to other more important tasks.

But I offer implement this feature now to close the problem of suspend/resume, improve the usability of the operating system. This is useful for notebooks and barebones.

How to implement? via new OS2LDR.

  • summary changed from Implement Hybernate to Implement Hibernate

Hibernate (Not Hybernate) have always existed for OS/2, but not a lot used it. I remember one had to find the files on inst cdrom or floppy, and inst them manually, but then Hibernate worked. Haven't tested that for many years, and wonder if they are still packed somewhere on eCS CD :-)

I do not expect this feature have ever been tested with all the new drivers we use - and especially not with SMP kernel.

But, it is an interesting alternative :-)

OK, the task is delayed because new kernel is not available.

Pasha: Hibernate to special partition is possible

e-co: it's impossible to make users re-partition harddisks. So all efforts go to trashcan.

There exists plenty of tools to repartition HD's these days - even to shrink FAT32 and NTFS partitions.

Isn't it overreacting to say nobody can do that ?
