When running VPC and starting SmartSynchronize? with -Xmx400m and above, all sort of weird system crashes happen on SMP machine.

-Xmx512m -- immediate reboot -Xmx400m(?) -- trap000e, pressing any key triggers trap0008.... -Xmx350m -- seems to work well

without VPC running - P:\java6\bin\java.exe -mx800m -jar ..\lib\smartsynchronize.jar Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. which is what I expect with current VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT=1536 setting But do never crash. Works nicely with -mx750m.

On single core Thinkpad never crashes even with VPC running. Starting with -Xmx450m only java app start hangs which can be killed with CTRL-C. No crash.

Seems that there is one more victim of the new SEH scheme - AOO. Java works in AOO (Apache OpenOffice?) if I use GA2 (old SEH scheme) and hangs (with a crash in ODINCDT.DLL) if I use GA3. Here's the POPUPLOG:

Currently, many properties, such as os.name and file.encoding contain Windows values (i.e. Windows 2000 and Cp1251) which is not correct on OS/2 and needs to be fixed.

While starting-stopping SmartSVN 12 times in a row, I got this message to the console twice and each time it was followed by a crash in JVM.

Back in June when I started to test the latest Java, I found several installer requiring entries into the Registry that pointed to the new Java, or they would not work. So I copied via USB thumb drive the Registry entries from a Windows 7 machine, to text on the OS/2 machine. Then I edited out the obvious Windows only statements and manually added to the Registry. However, I initially used the version string 1.6.0-b22 (carried forward Windows' version string). Only later when an application complained, did I do Java --version to discover that the correct string was 1.6.0-ga-b22.

When I went back to make this correction in the Registry on October 6, did ALL Java 1.6 applications became trash with all frames and dialogs stretched vertically from top of screen to bottom with no text.

In chasing the solution to this, I reinstalled Odin, Java 1.6, and did several other system maintenance tasks. To no avail did any fix the problem, until I moved Java 1.6 to a different volume. Then everything resumed normal function. So I can conclude that one or more of the paths with the version string is the cause. I seem to remember that you had a bug that you fixed with symptom of dialogs with nothing within, think this may be related. I have not corrected the paths in the Registry to point to the new location, yet, and am leery to do so.

BTW, only you know the correct information that is needed in the Registry.

Looks like this Java 6 switches away from curdir, when it starts, and then can't find the app.

No earlier versions (1.31 1.41 1.42) shows this behavior, when started same way.

Renamed existing C:\Java160 directory to Java160-b24. Unzipped b25 GA3 to c:\Java160. JAVA_HOME is C:\Java160\ and C:\Java160\bin is the *only* Java directory in PATH.

Running java -version from a command prompt (including from the JRE directory itself) returns to a new prompt with nothing displayed. POPUPLOG.OS2 says:

Some suggestions for the planed WPI:

• PACKAGEID: please put all infos like now "1.6.0-b22 WSE" into "\major\minor[\revision[\fixlevel]" and not into "vendor\application\package".
• Set JAVA_HOME in config.sys ​Info. In eCS 2.1 this set links on my system to "E:\PROGRAMS\JAVA142".
• Add a association to *.JAR / *JAR from java.exe with "-jar %**F" or so.
• Add an icon to JAVA*.exe-files.

The first version of the road map should provide the general overview of the development plan. It will be fine tuned as the project goes on.

Currently, we set the default Java fonts to Helvetica, Courier and Times New Roman (which are always present in OS/2).

However, these fonts are not perfect. They don't contain Unicode glyphs and look really odd w/o anti-aliasing. We may consider choosing different fonts.

This is *possibly* the same problem as ticket #200.

With the internal eCS 2.2 beta's that install ODIN via RPM and the latest JAVA I get a graphically corrupted PMSHELL. I need to reboot.

The problem does not go away by dragging for example an open folder over the desktop.

What happens is that Desktop On Call works. In the browser you see the login window loaded. Then when the you type in the password and userid normaly a new browser window is loaded that displays the remote desktop. This is where the crash occurs.

In some cases the java.exe does not crash by it. But if I go into TOP and kill it the same corruption occurs.

I will privately send a link where a desktop on call workstation is open so you guys can test this!

I have installed java-160GA5 WITH ODIN 089 but I was unable to use Facebook because I receive this window message:

after that messages the page of Firefox became empty and unusable. I have to kill it and restart.

The part of the cmd file comes from the JAlbum 9.3 cmd file for running in Java 1.50. Never got the message can't find KERNEL32. Odin is installed and config.sys is updates, computer did restart correct. Suppose its a path thing, but first I need to know where I can find that KERNEL32 thing.

Fatal error when installing JAlbum. I just include the report generated when trying to install JAlbum.

the above should return drive type when given a root letter, under windows "Local Disk", "Removable Disk", "CD Drive", "Network Drive" etc... but under eCS 2.1 nothing is returned.

as it's fixed by the dev, i close that bug. we don't have the time to look at all stuff and are glad devs also fix their app.

If we're going this way it will be over sooner than later. Its a bug in our OpenJDK and it should be fixed. There are more programs which have same behavior, but I didn't report it because its the same problem. So its not only JGraphite and not all developers are so kind to fix something for just OS/2-eCS.

I have an HP JetDirect? J4101B print server that uses a Java applet (needs at least Java 5) for administration. I have installed all needed parts of the new Java6 and iced-tea plugin. When I try to navigate to the JetDirect? IP the applet starts and begins to draw the screen, then hangs with 'starting applet' on the status bar. A POPUPLOG is produced and if other windows are opened, then closed on top of the browser, the image of the window 'sticks' to the browser window (see image). Sometimes the browser hangs too and must be killed.

I installed IcedTeaWeb? and visited ​http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp to test the plugin.

ImageJ version 1.44l started with Java 1.5 works just fine. Running with Java 1.6 gives the problem that windows can't be closed, the program can't be stopped, buttons for saving yes, no and cancel don't work. The strange thing is that other menu buttons do work, like mirror horizontal, sharpening etc.

jAlbuminstall.jar (Version 9.1.2) from ​http://jalbum.net/ does work. Install window hangs w/o error message.

There is no Java log, so Java works, got a message from Run that it might be XUL.DLL, but I don't know if this is true. The system beeps once.

I've filed a ticket (#HWN-225-24480) with the JDownloader Team due to the problems to use their generic java installer crash at 83-84% right after it has copied some cfg information (Error_355.err). A restart of the isntaller with downloaded files crash almost instantly (Error_676.err).

The Windows installer on the other hand crash in unpack200

That's all there is. I don't know if the swing error lines have to do with that look and feel. The program jaco-watermark-0.2.0.zip can be found on sourceforge.

I have tested your last version of java with LVMGUI to view if menu bar item appear or not and I have noted that now is possible to use all function in it, but during the start of program I receive this message on console:

the command that I use is: JAVA.EXE -cp C:\OS2JAVAAPPS\LVMGUI.ZIP lvmgui.

After many test I obtained a hang that force me to reboot with C.A.D. I attached a captured image of lvmgui window (lvmgui.jpg).

I am using versions 6.5.11 of SmartSVN (requiring Java 1.4.2) and 6.6.7 (requiring Java 1.6 -> this new version of Java) in VirtualBox?. The VirtualBox? host is Windows 7 running with a screen aspect ratio of 16/9 while the VirtualBox? guest is OS/2 running with a screen aspect ratio of 4/3. 1.) for SmartSVN 6.5.11 I can properly resize windows: maximizing the window will exactly fill the screen, sizing works as expected 2.) for SmartSVN 6.6.7 I cannot properly resize windows: maximizing the window will cover exactly the screen height but will exceed the screen width. I suspect it tries to scale screen width with a ratio of 16/9 where it should scale with 4/3 of the screen height. I also cannot size at all (even though the sizing pointer symbol is visible) and the window unfortunately is wider than the screen. 3.) both versions of SmartSVN properly work when running under native OS/2
(no window sizing problem).

Therefore, from the 3 components:

I suspect that the Java 1.6 somehow queries the wrong screen resolution or the wrong aspect ratio or that it uses "unsuitable" parameters queried from the OS to compute screen width/screen height.

First thing after booting, I started and then closed Firefox (10.0.12).

Then I tried to run TightVNC 2.6.2 Java app (get it here ​http://www.tightvnc.com/download.php) Although it used to run with eCS Java GA 4 and older, it has not been working well with GA5. Now it wouldn't open past the login screen. My desktop was frozen, the cursor became the VNC remote desktop point cursor.

I used the C-A-D popup's TOP app to kill the Java process.

After returning to my working desktop, I opened Firefox again to come to this page, to look for Java updates. At the same time I tried to check the Java -version in a 4OS2 window.

The system immediately crashed to a black screen. NO messages in POPUPLOG.OS2. Rebooting required chkdsk on all my HPFS and JFS drives.

After the reboot, I reproduced the issue with the VNC desktop, and the need to kill the JAVA process with TOP. I had also increased the virtual address limit from 1 GB to 2 GB, to see if it would help, no dice.

My system is a 4GB RAM with 4-cores AMD Phenom II, 500 GB HDD, XFX AMD 1GB video.

I run eCS 2.1 with Odin 0.8.9, Java GA5 (of course).

Since JAVA is already at v. 7.17 for all other OS's, and all older Java versions are VERY unsafe, what is the prospect for a proper working, safe Java for eCS? Given that eCS is well outside the mainstream of OS's in browsers, media players, office apps, etc., incremental approaches releasing successive older versions of Java won't work. If it is not possible to proceed directly to the latest Java, isn't this the end of the road for OS/2-eCS?

If I used big apps like FF, OOo or TB before I start a Java-App Java traps (sometimes) the system. Only Power off/on is possible.

I hope the attached foto helps. If not tell me, what I should do for fixing the problem.

Seems like all output from running java.exe from CMD goes to stderr. All OS/2 apps have always sent output to stdout, and that is what all OS/2 tools expect.

Previous Java versions did the same !

We need Java6 to have OS/2 personality, as all other OS/2 apps - and all previous JAVA versions.

Running the 14-1.1 of the JavaRDP (same issue seen with 16-1.1), minimizing the remote desktop window causes CPU hog (99.9%). Using Xpager and switching to a different virtual desktop does not cause the issue, however, and is a workaround for some people.
