Implement PDF Thumbnails

Create a "tabbed" user interface to view multiple documents (like we have it in recent web browsers).

Currently, we programmatically disable saving the viewed document under the same name (see #178 for details). We should make it possible one day. An universal method that should work for all plugins (no matter if they internally support it or not) is to:

• Save to a temporary file in the same target directory.
• Close the current document.
• Delete the original file.
• Rename the temporary file to the original name.
• Reopen the original file.

German Umaute in PDF-Files are displayed wrong in the document-information-window. Even if they are set under OS/2 (PDFMergeNX or ExitTool?).

Please can we have a "two-up" page view side by side in addition to the Continuous and Single Page Views currently available?

Presently, Lucide has no facility for annotating PDFs (it is a viewer only, or can Save-As). Marking this core, as I do not believe that other formats have this capability, either.

The attached form has a column labeled reduction rate. Lucide displays this as if the column has only a grayish background. In fact, the column contains numbers on a colored background.

Poppler on linux has the same display issue.

If I create a PDF via OpenOffice? and use a PWD with Umlaute, I cannot open it with Lucide. Maybe there is a codepage-problem. I hope it is no Unicode-problem. Maybe one Alex Taylors DLLs could help. Opening the document with AR5 is possible.

The PWD is "Lügen".

Spotted a couple of textual errors in the object creation bit of the WarpIN script.

     CREATEOBJECT='WPProgram|ReadMe")|...

The ") characters should not be there.

This applies to packages 5, 8 and 10.

When a picture (like a screenshot) is embedded in a PDF, Lucide seems to apply a simple, pixel duplication-like upscaling algorithm, which results in ugly appearance and poor readability. Other PDF viewers use smooth scaling instead, which produces a much better visual result.

With an epson C88+ printer, printing appears to run normally, but no output to printer.

This was a CA tax form filled out by Lucide (thanks for fill-in support!!!)

Innotek Acrobat 5 printed the filled out form. I noted that Lucide processed the form for a short time while attempting to print. Acrobat processed for a much longer time before printing.

Lucide 1.21, eCS v1.2 SMP (2 AMD Athlon cpu's). HP Laserjet P2015dn using PScript.HP LaserJet? 4300 PS driver to networked SLPR port.

Print job successfully sent to printer (job is created and sent as observed with opened printer object). It does not print. It is not in a spool file. An IPTrace shows the job is received by the printer, including the PJL EOJ command. If you wish this trace posted please let me know.

No problem with other applications using this print driver. No problem printing using Acrobat Reader 5.0 for OS/2 (AR5OS2.EXE).

Sometimes Lucide crashes when I use the "file open"-window and browse through the list of files. I think it has something to do with the preview displayed on the right side and only happens when I browse very fast (with arrow keys).

Alt-w no longer opens the Window menu. The same is true for the other menu hotkeys.

Reverting to lucide.dll v1.3 resolves the issue.

Lucide doesn't print Firefox pdf in PS format, if the printer uses A4

Lucide itself (without document) is very slow. It takes about half a minute to display the About screen with the CPU-meter going to 99.9 %. To display a document takes about 1/2 - 1 min pr. page with CPU util. = 99.9%. If I want to print a document of more then one page I have to select one and one page and print them. It takes 1/2 - 1 min pr. page with 99.9 % CPU utilization If I try to print all pages together only the first page will print. The rest will be blank pages. When I open a new document Lucide sometimes displays a message saying something like: Wait while I am creating thumbnails.

gcc-stdc++-shared-library and gcc-supc++-shared-library

are not available via yum. trying to install gives the following error:

Often when scrolling through a .PDF document, there is a significant delay while some part of Lucide renders the new page or portion thereof.

Memory is relatively cheap these days, and OS/2-eCS provides excellent swapping. Lucide should buffer the current page as well as the prior and next pages so that the user doesn't have to wait so long while scrolling.

I am running Lucide 1.21 under eCS 2.0 rc6a with SNAP Versio 3.18, build 505

When you load a big pdf in Lucide and you want to browse to a certain page with the go to option then Lucide will fail and exits. This happens also with the arrows in the bar.

If I try to start lucide I get the above errormessage. gcc is installed, don't have a clue what I have done wrong or forgotten. If I have to test something let me please know.

Installed lucide-1_3_4_beta2 and when I try to start it I get

"Error loading Lucide.dll: can't find module 'STDCPP' (SYS0002)"

This is on eCS 2.1 with libc063.dll and gcc442.dll

What else am I missing?

Lucide should be able to read and display the outline-structure of a djvu-file (bookmarks). Now it only displays "Page 1" etc. in bookmarks-section.

PDF files with Japanese text that do not embed the required fonts, but specify installed (system) fonts like "MS Mincho" do not display that text under Lucide.

Lucide apparently does not resolve the specified fonts correctly.

Comment from a beta-tester:

Often when I get a pdf, depending on the subject, I prefer to print it. Back problems make online study a painful experience. What really bugs me is the lack of an option to print it on both sides of the paper. With a regular text document, I can do this with Wordperfect... Even works on dot matrix printer, which I prefer. To me, that feature would be a real Adobe buster.

PLEASE make Lucide remember the printer margins when I change the defaults on the print dialog page! I have to change them EVERY time I print as the defaults make no sense at all. I find this very frustrating.(HP 960C)

It would be nice if the "Ignore margins" setting in the print dialogue would be stored across sessions.

The very valuable "fast page-browse" function has disappeared in the 1.3.3 beta version. See picture.

There should be a REXX interface for Lucide, this would make it possible to script certain tasks, one could even think to manipulate PDF documents or similar like this.

We have to define first how this could be done and what would make sense.

[ eComStation Developer Group ] I've just had a look at the source .lng file for Lucide translation.

It's short, it's plain text, it seems to be structured... but is NOT. It's easy to produce a translation for Lucide, but not so easy to produce a good one (perhaps some defects are inherited from NewView? here?). What's wrong?

BTW, this is not intended to be a pun against Eugene Romanenko, but a constructive criticism that may be used by developers pf NLV-enabled apps to make translators' lives easier.

-Resource strings are split into groups starting with 'MENU_', 'TBHINT_' and the like. This is good, but strings within groups are hardly sorted, so you can't relate them to each other adequately (as you would if they resembled menu nesting, group boxes, etc. item order).

For example, to choose adequate mnemonics for user menus it is most convenient to have them in nested lists, ordered so that items in the list match the order in which they appear on the user menu. This happens most of the time, except that menu subgroups are shuffled around, or perhaps you are translating 'document' menu items and you suddenly find a subgroup from 'view'...

-Strings from each group can be related to strings in other groups. An obvious example is items-toolbar hint pairs. While it is very sensible to group menu items, it makes a little less sense to group hints, except perhaps for length comparison.

Parhaps a good solution would be a 2-column table for each app element (such as the user menu or dialog boxes) ordered by item (first column), with item-hint couples in each row. Of course, I mean user-editable columns; obviously there should be column for IDs, etc...

The "new" plausibility / loading for DLL modules does not check the DIR / DLL via BEGINLIBPATH.

Lucide does not find the DLL s and display a Message "... (SYS002)"

I'd like to provide updated version of the lucide_cs_cz.lng and a new translation of the readme file to Czech.

if i open a couple of pdf from firefox and want to print, lucide prints the first 2 pdf right. but any following does not print all information. even closing all lucide and reopen just one, does not solve the problem. this is with lucide 1.2

It would be desirable to be able to select columns for copy & paste. Right now, text is selected per line, and ignores possible layout of the document.

The window name of Lucide should contain the filename of the open document. Now only "Lucide - Dokumentenanzeige" appears in the window-name. There should appear "Lucide - FILENAME" (please without "Dokumentenanzeige". Also in document-info should appear the filename (maybe in the window name or as first entry).

In the window list appears the filename twice. For example: "filename.pdf-filename.pdf - Lucide - Dokumente[!]" Better should be simple "filename.pdf - Lucide" (like OOo).

Changing the page-Layout (German: Seiten-Layout) in preferences (Einstellungen) window requires a restart of Lucide to get effective. Closing and reopening the document does not change to the selected layout. If this can not be fixed a message / hint in preferences should inform the user about this problem.

Lucide 1.3.2

Installed at my work place is a networked Xerox Phasor 8550. I am using the 8400P driver since we don't have a newer one. Outport Port is SLPR1. I could print to the printer with beta4 using Print type As image. But with RC1 and 1.0 the printer only spits out page after page of postscript.

The menu bar is not navigable with the keyboard.

When the "Alt" key is pressed, the "File" menu is shown, but when the cursor keys are pressed, the menu disappears.

The menu bar accelerators doesn't work.

I think we hould have a logo for this website (like "QT4 for OS/2" has).

After closing a PDF still the structure (outline?) of the closed document is displayed in the left window (in German "Navigator"). Also page-Counter is still active. Both should be empty or inactive. Version 1.3.2

The spanish translation of Lucide is outdated.

Added translations of the language file and the readme for the 1.3.2 version. Also the modified WarpIN script file.

I am using the current environment:

Lucide 1.32 Dell 3100cn printer Postscript printer driver version 30.778 eCS kernel 14.103a

The Print dialog provides the Print Type options of Postscript and As Image. The Postscript option is the default. Printing the document with the Postscript option generates multiple pages of the raw Postscript printer control language statements. The document prints properly when using the As Image option. This problem occurs with all PDF files.

This problem would be less of an issue if the previously selected print options were saved between program sessions or the default options could be specified under Settings. Thank you for your help.

At the end of the WPI install of 1.01 over 1.0 it asked if I wanted to set Lucide as the default PDF viewer. I said yes. Now the default PDF viewer is the E.exe text editor and the .pdf files are called txt files. The context menu under "open as" has "Text editor" as the only entry.

PLEASE Fix as this has really messed things up for me. Thanks. Assoedit doesn't work to fix it either.

Attached PDF (Source: ​http://www.umweltbank.de/formulare/default.html) can be filled and printed correctly. But saving creates a zero-byte file. Some other files from the source can be saved correctly.

In the document-information for example of a PDF-File are often usefull and long informations like the source of the document (bibliography). Please make it possible to copy these informations to clipboard (via Crtl+Ins or Contextmenu).

In fact, the fullscreen mode is meant as the presentation mode (this is why we remove the scroll bars and set the zoom level that shows the entire page at the maximum possible size).

It will be more clean to rename this mode to Presentation and rename the ambiguous Maximized View mode (F11) to Fullscreen instead. This also corresponds to the behavior of other applications such as Evince.

Copy a selected text to clipboard (Ctrl+Ins / Ctrl+C) is not possible in fullscreen-mode (Ctrl+L).
