#223 Autostart does not work Samba Client GUI (EVFSGUI) defect herwigb new 2013-05-16 2013-05-16 BlondeGuy

Autostart doesn't work. I can mount a drive shared by SAMBA server for OS/2, but if I save as an autostart, it gives error SYS0058: The specified server cannot perform the requested operation. This is likely because the TCP/IP Startup and the EVFS objects are both in the startup folder.

This is the way eCS is configured by default. Test was run under eCS 2.2 beta.

Wouldn't autostart work better if it was command line based and ran as a TCPEXIT?

#222 EVFSGUI fatal error 'E' at startup Samba Client GUI (EVFSGUI) Samba Client GUI (EVFSGUI) 2.0 defect herwigb new 2013-05-04 2013-05-12 asavage

Upon a recent reboot, I saw this:

" Line 22 of _LoadOtherFuncs in evfsgui.VRM: +++ Call VRMessage 'Main', 'REXX function library 'strip(translate(word(sourceline(sigl -1),4),' ',",'))'.DLL is missing!','EVFSGUI fatal error','E'; "

Screenshot: http://asavage.dyndns.org/ftp/hosting/eCS/Samba/Samba_03b.png

It has not been seen since.

Steven Levine opines: "This looks like two problems. One is an intermittently unloadable DLL and another is a failure of the error reporting code.

#165 Timestamp not updated after copying to the OS/2 share Unknown Server 3.3.x defect nobody new 2011-04-15 2013-05-07 dmik

If you copy a bunch of files to the OS/2 share, some files will have their original dates, some files will get the current date.

To me, it looks like the time stamp is not always updated correctly on the server after the copy operation is completed.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Connect to an OS/2 share.
  2. Copy a bunch of files from your local machine to it.
  3. Compare the file timestamps with the originals.

#214 Cannot get client to work Config error Server 3.3.x Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.1.x user error herwigb accepted 2013-03-04 2013-04-12 REXX

I have server and client installed on two (2) eCS machines, NETBios names HCM and HHCM. I have client access to both machines from Windows 7. I have client access to HHCM from HCM. I have no client access to HCM from HHCM.

The server installation on HHCM appears to be incomplete (no saving and updating of CONFIG.SYS and "homes" not created, even though it exists in the smb.conf file).

I executed the group of troubleshootinf tests on both HCM and HHCM (see the attached 2 files). On HHCM the domain is "BLACKBODY". It should be "HHCM. And there are other problems on HHCM, as indicated in these tests.

#215 Samba 3.5.x smbd and nmbd both trash tdb files after some time Samba Server Core Server 3.5.x Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.2.0 defect diver assigned 2013-03-15 2013-04-07 herwigb

Symptoms: 3.5.19 nmbd stops working after some arbitrary time. For smbd no mor new connection is accepted, while older one still work.

Looking into log.nmbd I see plenty of these:

[2013/03/15 11:40:54.862000, 0] lib/util_tdb.c:385(tdb_log)
  tdb(D:\MPTN\ETC/samba/lock/wins.tdb): tdb_rec_read bad magic 0xd9fee666 at offset=6392
[2013/03/15 11:40:54.888000, 0] lib/util_tdb.c:385(tdb_log)
  tdb(D:\MPTN\ETC/samba/lock/wins.tdb): tdb_rec_read bad magic 0x42424242 at offset=5384
[2013/03/15 11:40:54.925000, 0] lib/util_tdb.c:385(tdb_log)
  tdb(D:\MPTN\ETC/samba/lock/wins.tdb): tdb_oob len 1113543791 beyond eof at 24576
[2013/03/15 11:40:54.925000, 0] lib/util_tdb.c:385(tdb_log)
  tdb(D:\MPTN\ETC/samba/lock/wins.tdb): tdb_rec_read bad magic 0x0 at offset=6704

for smbd.exe log entries look very similar.

Result is: nmbd.exe process is unkillable and smbd does not accept any new connection.

This problem also affects the client.

#96 kBuild script for build process of GUI Tools Samba Server GUI Tools GUI Tools 1.0.0 GUI Tools 1.0.0 task herwigb new 2009-06-25 2012-03-13 herwigb

At the moment every GUI has to be built separately opening the VX-REXX IDE. The goal is to rebuild all GUI tools in one step.

Building an .exe from commandline works using the following switches (documented, but well hidden):

vrxedit /o smbusers.vrp /x smbusers.exe /q

#28 'write list' option - users in the write list do not get write access on a read only share Samba Server 3.0.25b Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.1.x defect diver assigned 2007-08-20 2012-03-13 guest

I try give anybody read-only access for "myshare", and write access to vipuser:

[myshare]

path = D:\path\dir read only = yes write list = vipuser

But vipuser cannot write... ("write list = @vipgroup" do not worked too)

#183 Both Samba and IBM LAN use net.exe as 'major' command. This needs to be fixed somehow. Samba Server 3.0.34 Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.2.0 enhancem. diver new 2011-12-19 2012-03-02 diver

A solution could be to create a wrapper net.exe that analyzes the parameters passed to it and select which net.exe was intended based on that. Hardly foolproof, this could be sort of a fix for many of the annoyances.

Another solution would be to simply rename the Samba version of net.exe (which would at least break the documentation)

One way or the other, this problem needs to be resolved.

#35 Installing a client printer driver on the server in [print$] fails at the last stage of the process with WERR_ACCESS_DENIED Samba Server 3.0.26a Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.1.x defect psmedley new 2007-09-26 2012-03-02 guest

Installing a Windows XP client printer driver using APW on the Samba server's [print$] (driver repository) fails with WERR_ACCESS_DENIED after copying all the required files in place.

The process is described here: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/classicalprinting.html#id387511

#110 Unix client cannot set time, error code 95 Samba Server 3.0.34 Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.1.x defect diver new 2009-10-25 2012-03-02 ydario

While writing files from (L)unix client to OS/2 samba server, the client is unable to set file time/permissions.

Typical error code is 95.

Sample output from rsync: rsync: failed to set times on "/home/yuri/.gvfs/yuri su pippo/Dati/Yuri/grab": Operation not supported (95)

Same error using File Commander/Linux?.

Does not happen when files are copied using GUI (e.g. Nautilus).

Samba server 3.0.34, will test latest 3.3.x. Logs will be added.

#171 Cups support Samba Server Core Server 3.5.x Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.2.0 enhancem. diver accepted 2011-06-29 2011-11-02 diver

#36 max log file does not work (i.e logfile grows forever) Samba Server Server 3.3.x Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.1.x defect diver assigned 2007-09-27 2011-06-29 guest

Entering a size limit for the logfiles in smb.conf via max log size is in vain, because Samba tries to rename the file and that fails.

Probably a similar resolution like Ticket #30 and #31 is required.

#153 OOo File open dialogue is very slow on a Samba share with lots of files. Samba Client Plugin NDP 2.0 task new 2011-01-17 2011-01-17 herwigb

Basically this is a followup to Ticket #120. While the reason for Ticket #120 was the missing cache of our Samba Client, the reason for this ticket is, that the ammount of time OOo File Open Dialog needs to read a directory rises exponentially (for n directory entries it has to do n * n reads).

It appears that this is a problem of the OOo Filedialog and not of Samba as my tests on a directory with 4700 entries revealed:

  • OOo 3.2.0 needs ages (never let the operation complete, killed it after 20 minutes), as it blocks the machine.
  • OOo 1.1.5 which used the Odin-Filedialog does the same within 1-3 seconds.
  • StarOffice 5.1a (which has a similar Filedialog as OOo 3.x) needs approximately 12 minutes (and does not block the machine).

#151 NLS enhancement Samba Client Plugin Netdrive plugin 2.2 enhancem. new 2011-01-11 2011-01-11 ggay

It would be nice to "easily" get a localized plugin - either a DLL compiled for every language (instpl.cmd can do the rest), or ideally something more dynamic (the plugin settings would change according to the system's LANG setting).

Of course, the plugin settings might not be seen THAT often, but the user would then get something more "consistent" in case the localized versions of NDPM or EVFS GUI are used.

#15 Hidden, system, readonly attributes do not work as expected on OS/2 Samba Server 3.0.x Samba Server for eCS (OS/2) 1.1.x defect diver new 2007-06-27 2010-11-29 guest

Clients (WinXP and Netdrive) see files on the server, that have the hidden and/or system attribute set.

Clients (WinXP and Netdrive) seem to be able to change hidden, system, readonly attributes, but the attributes don't stick (it appears the server ignores these changes.

Clients (WinXP and Netdrive) can delete files on the server that have readonly attribute set.
