On nVidia nForce3 AC'97 (10DE:00EA) no sound - "sputters" in RC6

Description

Using a Giga-byte GA-K8NSC-939 based PC (Athlon 64 3200+) with eCS 2.0rc4. All RC's up to now worked fine. RC5 produces no sound (Nvidia CK8S/Realtek ALC850 - 10DE:00EA). I tried uniaud16.sys from rc4 with uniaud32.sys from rc5 and it 'works', but every sound starts with a weird 'sputter'. Uniaud16.sys from rc5 and uniaud32.sys from rc4 produces no sound. I will attach the logs for both rc5 files loaded.

I would actually think, that RC1 would not have worked for you, but never mind.

Please try: ftp://ftp.ecomstation.dk/uni16rc5a.zip

and attach log here again - if it works or not :-)

Uni16rc5a 'works' but every sound starts with the same weird 'sputter' I mentioned before. I have uploaded the log files you request (debuginfo2.zip). These are with the RC5 version of uniaud32 and the uni16rc5a uniaud16.

Please test with unaiud32.sys from http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32-1.9.2.zip - preferably with unaiud16.sys from 1.1.4RC5

Here are my test results with both 1.9.2 and 1.9.3 - both were with ACPI 3.08 loaded:

1) Uniaud16rc5 + 192/193 = no sound 2) Uniaud16rc4 + 192 = Trap 8 at WPS start (during startup sound) 3) Uniaud16rc4 + 193 = good sound 4) Uniaud16rc5a + 192 = Trap 8 at WPS start (during startup sound) 5) Uniaud16rc5a + 193 = good sound

I suspect that Uniaud 1.1.4RC6 will fix this too.

Well, RC6 'works' but I am back to having the weird 'sputter' noise with every sound. Uniaud16rc6 + Uniaud321.9.3 works fine....

ok. RC5 UNI16 can't work for your hardware. Could you please test UNI16 RC6 and UNI32 RC4 and tell us, if that gives you normal sound ?

If not, add a logfile.

UNI16 RC6 + UNI32 RC4 works normally. (I'm still waiting for my authorized logon...)

  • owner changed from yoda to gentux2
  • status changed from assigned to new
  • component changed from UNIAUD16 to UNIAUD32
  • summary changed from 114RC5 + Nvidia CK8S = no sound to On nVidia nForce3 AC'97 (10DE:00EA) no sound

I'll have a look at this.

This breaks in changeset:283, which fixes SBLive silence with a partial reversal of monster changeset:77. I'm trying to find if there is something else in r77 that can be reversed to rectify this.

FWIW - Paul's UniAud?32-1.9.10 works perfectly with this chipset...
