#70 new defect

USB and HP C4180 printer/scanner

Reported by: Doug Bissett Owned by:

Description

I have recently inherited a HP C4180 USB attached printer/scanner. One of the features is that it has 4 media slots for things like SD cards (that is all that I have to work with). If I insert an SD card, there is a LED that lights up. If I then use LVM /RediscoverPRM that LED flashes, but nothing is discovered. I will attach the log from USBDOCK, which seems to indicate that the reader is visible to the USB stack, so it should work the same as a multicard reader device.

I will note, that The printer, and the scanner, can be made to work with CUPS, and HPLIP. All of it, of course, works in windows XP.

I tested for this with my multicard reader. If I plug in the reader and then plug in a memory card, the first time I use LVM/RediscoverPRM no drive is attached. However, the second time I execute LVM/RediscoverPRM, a drive is attached and works. If I eject the drive and unplug and replug the memory card, but do not unplug the multicard reader, a single LVM/RediscoverPRM works every time.

Since the printer/multicard reader (the actual USB device) is properly detected by the USB stack, any issues are probably in the class driver, USBMSD.ADD. There is still much work to be done before any fixes/enhancements can be applied to USBMSD.ADD.

I also have a multicard reader, and it seems to work as you describe. The USB widget (v2.2.0 test build 20131103 version), on the other hand, is badly broken when used with the multicard reader/writer (reported at eCS Bug Tracker).

I marked this as "minor" because it is not a show stopper. I entered the incident, just because I think it should work. When the time comes, I should be able to supply whatever information, and testing, is required. Just let me know.

Thanks...
